The next Yoga for the Mind 250hr teacher training starts October 2010.

This training is the only in depth Yoga Therapy and Mindfulness for Mental Health Training available.  Geared towards qualified yoga teachers, yoga therapists and clinicians this is a specialty training that will prepare you to use yoga therapy and mindfulness in the mental health sector. Graduates are qualified as yoga therapists for mental health and are certified to practice both privately within the Yoga for the Mind model, teach the Yoga

for the Mind course and devise their own mind-body strategies.

Combining classical Yogic Techniques, with Therapeutic Work, Mindfulness and Western Science you will absorb vast array of skills and knowledge to be able to work with those suffering with from mental health difficulties.  All knowledge will be equally expressed in classical yoga understanding buttressed by scientific interpretation and psychotherapeutic appreciation of wellness.  Further students are instructed in mindfulness teachings taken directly from the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Model (MBCT) and will learn Heather's approach of weaving mindfulness into yoga therapy programs.  Training of mindfulness will also express Buddhist psychology.  The course fuses practical experience with intellectual expertise.  Your learning is based on your personal experience of your body and mind, various exercises with peers, comprehensive lectures, and reading materials.

How is this training unique?

1)   When addressed topic be they physiology, the mind or mental health we look at the yogic perspective, the neuroscientific perspective, the mindfulness perspective, and the therapy perspective.  These four ways of understanding will meld into each other and are also taught separately to provide different but complementary approaches on reality that support each other and will support your students and clients

2)   Most mindfulness based approaches teach individuals how to be with arising experience, while most yogic approaches help individuals to regulate experience.  By melding both you will be able to offer students and clients a way of both coping with those things that cannot be changed while providing practices that help to transform the body and brain to offer short-term and long-term relief from mental suffering.

This is a truly special yoga teacher training program as it melds both elements to offer an especially potent method of working with mental health.  The most important evidence for this is the impact on your students and clients.  Yoga for the Mind has found that using this multi-tiered approach genuinely helps individuals with severe and also minor mental health difficulties change their lives.  We have helped people return from hospital to home, from panic to relaxation, from hopelessness to hope, from confusion to clarify, from self-hatred to acceptance and community.  Join us in helping to change lives…..

We Provide a Wholistic Intervention

There are so many types of therapies out there.  Most work with only the body or just with the mind.  Yoga for the Mind combines both because...well...we are made up of both parts and really we cannot separate one from the other.   Additionally, there are so many therapies that are not based on science methods, or looks at the mind from a scientific angle and ignores the heart. Yoga for the Mind understands that if we really want to help other people, or ourselves we need to work with proven methods with a deeply compassionate approach.  In this training you will have an opportunity to cultivate both.

Please Note this therapy is not a substitute for talking therapies.  We espouse talking therapy as a wonderful complement to what we offer although it is not our preferred methodology.  Nonetheless, yoga therapists are instructed in dialoguing with clients alongside other work, but not as a primary form of healing.

The Mind Body Connection

Teaching and training will follow the importance of the body-mind connection in creating wellness.  Cutting edge scientific data informs us that deep physical and mental health emerge from a program that works with both the mind and the body.  Thoughts not only effect our mood, but have the capacity to influence biochemistry and brain function, while the bodily processes directly influence how we feel.  We are now learning that we can change our brains through what we do and how we think.  This principle is called neuroplasticity.

Honoring the huge growth in both holistic techniques and neuroscientific understanding in wellness Yoga for the Mind has developed a sound strategy that uses both perspectives to give you something concrete, innovative, compassionate, and truly effective.  As a student on this training you will learn this multi-tiered approach in a detailed, digestible form that will allow you to appreciate the amazing relationship between the body and mind and draw on this connection to help others.

As a yoga therapist you will be able to offer this specialized style of yoga to groups and individuals.  You will be  guiding individuals on how to use yoga and mindfulness to work with their own bodies and minds towards improved mental health.  Further you will experience for yourself how yoga based techniques informed by modern science and mindful awareness can transform the way you work with your own mind.  You will take your own journey into both the body and mind in order to assist others in the same process.

Yoga for the Mind training is a method to access your greatest teachers……your body and your mind namarupa!!!
